Mi primer email a Amazon 19 de octubre de 2002
Dear Sirs at Amazon.com,
I need your help with a problem about order # xxxxx . When this order arrived to my country ( Chile ) i was surprised by the fact that i had to pay the extra sum of US $ 50,27 to DHL. Their first explication attributed this money for the internation tax to Customs in Chile. Not been satificied with this explanation i ask by means of customer service of Chile (Sernac) an official answer for that amount of money. Now i know that this is an extra cost not due exclusively for tax but the bigger amount was for the Courier it self. I attach the letter from DHL in spanish and is a jpg file.
Being an old ( and until now very happy client from Amazon ) i had considered convenient for your information send this letter because i think that a great company like Amazon need be aware of such difference in final cost of an item.
I hope this letter will help for make a better service for customers who will choice delivery by International Courier in the future.
With my best regards

Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.
I apologize for the delay in responding to your e-mail message.
Please be assured that all of us here are working very hard to
provide a thorough, personal answer to each of our customers as
quickly as possible.
However, we appreciate your concern regarding the customs charges on
your recent purchase. As you know, customs policies vary widely from
country to country. Additionally, when ordering from Amazon.com, you
are considered the importer of record and must comply with all laws
and regulations of the country in which you are receiving the goods.
Many countries require these taxes be paid as a matter of law, and we
work with authorities to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Please note that customs or import duties may be levied once the
package reaches the destination country. Additional charges for
customs clearance would have to be borne by the recipient; we have no
control over these charges and cannot predict what they might be.
Customs policies vary widely from country to country; you may want to
contact your local customs office for further information.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns. We
look forward to continuing to build a strong relationship with our
many valued customers in other countries.
Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.
